A NOTE ON THE INGREDIENTS
In Italy, sourcing ingredients locally and seasonally is not a trend. It is part of our culture and the only way we know how to cook and bake.
In Rome, farmers’ markets are an every day affair. As a child walking home from school, I can remember the sound of buckets of water tossed on the pavement to clean up the markets. The streets were loud, messy, colorful, and happy. They were real places where Romans could buy the freshest produce from the country farms surrounding Rome. I grew up not eating tomatoes or berries in the winter because they simply weren’t available. So I learned to appreciate the apples and pears, squash and chestnuts, and when the cherries finally arrived in May, my goodness, were they delicious!
If you draw an imaginary line across the planet, you will find that Italy and California share a very similar climate. The beauty and abundance of fruit and vegetables remind me of home and farmers’ markets are where you can find me shopping.
I connect with local businesses whenever possible and enjoy working with family businesses who share my values. I cherish the pride and hard work behind these fine products and I hope that by choosing my baked goods, you will too.
